Overview

At Dubai Allergology Clinic at MMC, we recognize the distinct challenges that individuals in the Middle East, particularly in Dubai, face regarding allergies. The unique climate, environment, and dietary habits of this region can contribute to specific allergic responses not commonly observed elsewhere. Our commitment lies in understanding these unique factors, thereby providing tailored and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic care for allergies specific to this region.

Medical Uses

Allergy testing is a pivotal tool for diagnosing and managing various allergic disorders. In the Middle East, where unique allergens exist, understanding one's sensitivities is more crucial than ever. Conditions like allergic rhinitis, asthma, food allergies, and insect sting allergies are common here. Thus, our focus at Dubai Allergology Clinic at MMC is to employ the best practices in allergy testing. Identifying the root cause enables us to devise treatment plans that not only alleviate symptoms but also improve the overall quality of life for our patients in Dubai and beyond.

Types & Methods

Given the diverse nature of allergens present in this region, a comprehensive approach to testing is essential. Here at MMC:

  • Skin Tests: This is the most common method where small amounts of allergens are introduced to the skin using a tiny needle prick. The response is then observed to determine any allergic reactions.
  • Blood Tests: Sometimes, when skin tests aren't suitable, we rely on blood tests to measure the amount of specific antibodies produced in response to allergens.
  • Challenge Tests: Particularly used for potential food allergies, this involves consuming or inhaling a small amount of the allergen under supervised conditions.
  • Patch Tests: Useful for identifying allergens causing contact dermatitis, a patch with allergens is applied on the skin to observe any reactions.

Pre- & Post-Procedure

Preparation for allergy tests is as crucial as the procedure itself. We advise our patients to refrain from taking antihistamines or certain other medications a few days prior, as these can interfere with test results. Post-procedure, patients are guided on understanding their results, potential triggers to avoid, and management strategies. Some reactions from the tests might persist for a few days. Our dedicated team is always available to address any concerns or symptoms that may arise after testing.

History & Current Research

The history of allergology in the Middle East has evolved, with Dubai at its forefront, embracing innovative methodologies. Early practices were rudimentary, primarily relying on observation. However, with the integration of science and technology, our understanding and management of allergies have drastically transformed.

At the Dubai Allergology Clinic at MMC, we pride ourselves on staying updated with the latest research. Given the unique allergens and conditions present in this region, our dedication extends beyond standard practices. We are actively involved in local research, aiming to decipher the complex relationship between the environment of the Middle East and its impact on allergies.
